Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling was born on 27 January 1775 as the son of a priest in the Swabian town of Leonberg. Although his father left the town with his family in 1777 to take up a post as a teacher at the higher seminary of the Bebenhausen monastery, the memory of the town's most famous son is kept alive in two places in the small Swabian town. First of all, there is Schelling's birthplace at Pfarrstraße 14, which still functions as a parsonage today. The actual place of remembrance, however, is the Schelling memorial room in the Stadtmuseum Leonberg, which gives an overview of the life and work of one of the most important philosophers of German idealism.
