<h1>How it works</h1><p>First, select one of the three categories: Persons, Locations, or Paths.</p><p>Under Persons, the research station presents the names and portraits of 46 important representatives of the Romantic movement, listed in alphabetical order. After selecting one of these Romantics, you see, on a map, their place of birth and death, as well as all the places they lived and visited. In most cases, their motives for moving or travelling are also explained. In addition, a timeline indicates the date of their birth and death, allowing you to see whether they lived a long life or died young.</p><p>Under Locations, you find a list of the important sites of Romanticism. It is arranged alphabetically and can be easily searched using the first letters of the place names. The places where Romantics lived or visited for longer periods appear in bold, while the stops on their trips are highlighted in grey. Symbols identify not only the eight main and three secondary centres of Romanticism, but also the sites where memorials still exist today. After selecting one of the centres, you are shown which of the Romantics lived there. Coloured bars along the timeline indicate the length of their stays.</p><p>Finally, the Paths section provides you with a complete mobility profile of every person. You can even select and compare several people.</p><p></p>

How it works

<h1>Terms of use</h1><p>The internet-based research station and the interactive map in the permanent exhibition of the Deutsches Romantik Museum draw on the data collected and recorded between 2017 and 2020 by the Chronotopos Romantik research project. Funding for the project was generously provided by the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne. Project management was in the hands of Professor Anne Bohnenkamp and Professor Wolfgang Bunzel. The chief project officer was Dr. Cornelia Ilbrig, who was assisted by Anika Ott and Niklas Horlebein. The Freie Deutsche Hochstift wishes to thank the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne for its support.</p><p>The information compiled in the project database is the property of the Freies Deutsches Hochstift. Users are free to access and analyse it. If the data is cited in research papers or publications, we kindly request the authors to name the research station as the source with its web address.</p><p>In general, the images used in the research station are either owned by the Freies Deutsches Hochstift or are in the public domain. In cases where neither applies, we have obtained the owners’ permission to use the visual material. However, it was not always possible to determine beyond doubt whether individual rights were attached to an image. If you feel your rights have not been properly acknowledged, please contact us. We will do our best to settle justified claims in accordance with the law. In principle, third parties are not allowed to use images from the interactive map.</p><p>The interactive map and the research station have been designed and programmed by MESO Digital Interiors GmbH in Frankfurt am Main.</p>

<h1>Accompanying publication</h1><p>Until the Deutsches Romantik Museum was opened, there was no general overview of existing Romantic memorials or the places where Romantics lived. One of the goals of the Chronotopos Romantik research project was thus to produce an accompanying publication that documented its work. A guide of 50 well and lesser-known memorial sites has now been published under the title <em>Schatzhäuser der Romantik</em> (“Treasuries of Romanticism”). The richly illustrated book, released by Reclam Verlag, is available at all bookstores, on the internet, and in the museum shop.</p>
