Opened in 2013, the Romanticum is a facility which belongs to the city of Koblenz. It is located in the basement of the newly built Forum Confluentes, which also houses the city library, tourist information and the Middle Rhine Museum. The Romanticum offers an interactive exhibition on Rhine Romanticism and introduces personalities who lived on the banks of the Rhine, such as Sophie von La Roche, Clemens Brentano, Heinrich Heine and Karl Baedeker, as well as visitors who travelled the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, such as Achim von Arnim, Lord Byron, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Victor Hugo, Heinrich von Kleist, Friedrich Schlegel, Johanna Schopenhauer, Mary Shelley, William Turner and Queen Victoria.
